Description: This course focuses on the importance of good communication and basic behavior theories. These ideas help healthcare providers talk with patients about managing their health and disease and improving their skills in this area. There are four (4) lessons:

  1. Principles of health promotion
  2. Effective communication
  3. Motivational interviewing
  4. Talking with health care providers and managing patient expectations of their care

This course should take participants approximately 3 hours to complete.

Course Outcomes

Identify effective communication techniques such as motivational interviewing based upon knowledge of Malow’s Hierarchy of Needs, the Health Belief and the Transtheoretical Models.
